Seekonk Public Schools is Hiring a Reading Specialist (Wilson Reading Certified) Near Seekonk, MA

Title: Reading Specialist (Wilson Reading Certified)

Type of Position: Full-time (1.0); 2024-25 school year; salary commensurate with experience and education, as set forth in the agreement between the Seekonk School Department and the Seekonk Educators Association.

Location: Aitken Elementary School, 165 Newman Ave., Seekonk, MA, 02771

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All qualified candidates

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of Student Services

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must have the following:

  • Wilson Reading System Certified Instructor
  • Bachelor Degree in Education
  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, preferably in Reading, Special Education, or English. 
  • Ability to relate well with and communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with colleagues and administrators
  • Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in Reading, Special Education or current matriculation in related Master's Degree Program
  • Experience in elementary education and/or reading intervention 
  • Experience with the use of data to inform and guide educational decisions and practices

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide reading services and interventions aligned with Wilson standards and expectations to students individually and in small groups
  • Collaborate with other members of the student’s team in planning, writing progress reports, and implementing instructional goals and objectives according to the student’s individual reading goal
  • Provide reading interventions and support for students as part of an RTI process
  • Maintain a professional relationship and climate with all colleagues and administrators conducive to learning and sharing
  • Present a positive role model for colleagues that supports the mission and curricular goals of the school
  • Encourage appropriate technologies in the teaching and learning process
  • Work under direction of the Aitken Elementary School Building Principal and Director of Education
  • Willingness to complete Wilson Level 2 certification training during 2024-25 school year
  • Attend IEP meetings if needed
